COURAGE BY FAITH
By Pastor Dr. Karen Baker

JOSHUA 2 (REHAB)
Rehab started out as a prostitute, because of her faith and courage she became a
part of the genealogy of Jesus Christ. Her choice of believing and trusting the
Israelites’ God, caused her to stand and lie to the soldiers. There are times in our
life when we are going to need to stand as leaders. Stand on what we believe
even if others don’t want to listen.
Rehab never could imagine what God had purposed for her life. As leaders in the
kingdom of God, our job is to live by faith and operate by courage because there
are others who are watching us, and our courage and faith encourages them to
hold on and believe.
Rehab married Salmon and birthed Boaz; Boaz married Ruth and Ruth had Obed;
Obed was the father of Jesse; and Jesse was the father of David. By faith, Rehab
the harlot, caused her family to be saved.
1. How did Rehab’s faith save her family?
2. How can we relate that to us having strong faith as a leader?
Rehab saw things differently than anyone else in her community.
3. What do you think Rehab recognized?
4. As “Chief Women” why is it important that we see beyond what is in front
of us?
5. Leaders must have visions. When we see beyond what is happening now,
why is our faith so important?
6. Can you think of an incident where are you had to walk by faith and not by
sight?
The residents of Jericho were petrified at the news of the Israelites triumph over
Egypt and other nations. Rehab was afraid but she determined that the Israelites’
God was the real God. Because of her belief, her courage rises and she acted on
her faith. She chose to switch sides. When she hid the three spies it took courage
and faith.
7. What do you think is the meaning of Courage by Faith?
The story of the Rehab offers proof that God honors true faith and courage.
